Hi lovelies! As you know from my last post, my birthday was a few weeks ago! You can take a look at my post here! I decided to go to a little karaoke bar in Korea Town, and guess what, we ended up on stage! This honestly wasn’t my first time singing at a Karaoke Bar, I sang at the exact same one a few years ago and my experiences were night and day. This time was horrifying and very embarrassing, and on top of that, our boyfriends got the whole thing on camera, Snapchat and Instagram. Oh the beauty of social media.
Here are a few tips to have a good karaoke experience:
- Song Choice is EVERYTHING – The first time I karaoked, we chose to sing Wannabe by the Spice Girls. This is a song that everyone knows! Me, and my two best friends actually felt like rockstars! The crowd was vibing with us and singing along. This time we chose to sing Radar, by Britney Spears.
Fail. I think only true Britney fans know this song, which clearly, no one in the audience was. - Sing With a Solid Group – So they call me and my three girlfriends on stage.. The four us then dwindles down to two, within the first 30 seconds. I was horrified, and actually remember praying that my last friend didn’t leave the stage as well! Luckily for me, she stayed! I am actually very proud of us. The other two left because they didn’t know the song. Again, song choice is everything!
- Be Confident – So, 2 out of 4 left the stage and our confidence level was at an all time low. We were literally backed into a the corner near the DJ! The fist time we did karaoke we felt like we were on top of the world. After all, if you aren’t confident in your performance, the audience won’t be either… OOPS.
- Have Some Alcohol in Your System – Last, but not least. Have a little bit of liquid courage going on. This time karaokeing, I was completely sober! Props to me for getting on stage and singing to an audience. I always hated presentations in school. The first time we sang at this bar, we were the very last performance of the night and let’s just say, we all had a few cocktails. This time, we performed midway, and no one was mentally prepared.
I hope you can learn from these tips and enjoy your next time karaoking!
P.s. You can shop my Chicwish look at the end of this post!
What a fun and memorable way to celebrate your birthday! I personally hate karaoke because the spotlight is literally on you. I don't think I would have the courage to sing by myself let alone on stage, but you're right, a little alcohol aka liquid courage does help as well as some friends to go up with you. Sounds like you had a wonderful night and some great memories made! xoxo, Christinehttp://dailykongfidence.com/
Omgosh I love this! I've never sung at a Karaoke bar but I've been to traditional Asian places where you're usually in private rooms with friends singing and embarrassing yourselves. I don't think I could ever get up in front of strangers and would need a lot of liquid courage if I did. Hope you had the best time though 😉 Helen xxhttps://helenchik.com/pregnancy-journey-far
Super cute girl! Love that top and you styled it.And about Karaoke, I've only done it once and I think it was my last hahaha I'm such a horrible singerHowever, I do like your tips and I think that having a cocktail or two before really makes all the difference Thanks for sharing! Sounds like you had a fab bday!XOAimarawww.waysofstyle.com
OMG this post is so fun to read girl!! I have been to many Karaoke bars in K-Town and I agree sometime it is a hit and sometimes it is a big bust. The group makes everything more fun and song choice is evrythang…I like Britney and I don't even know what Radar is (but surprised that they have it on the song list) I'm glad that your friend stuck it out with you. Next time, get one of those private rooms where you can rock out like a rockstar and no one will judge :)xo ShereePoshClassyMom.com
I never been big fan of karaoke, because I never liked my voice. My sister is really karaoke sister and she goes out almost every weekend to sing. I agreed with you do's except you don't really need to have alcohol in you to sing 😉 I have done it before without it and it was still fun. Love your casual outfit, very chic and stylish.http://www.queenhorsfall.com/http://www.queenhorsfall.com/
Great tips! I have a terrible voice but I love to sing. My poor son is tone deaf too and he also shares my love of music. I would love to perform but it's probably better I don't LOL. For now I'll setting for singing privately in my car…XOhttp://www.lehoarder.com/
Hey Tandya,I’m not a frequent guest at Karaoke bars. Luckily, nobody got my experiences on IG or Snapchat 😃Your tips are so useful, especially the last one. I think that some alcohol would definitely help to become more confident and to make a right choice of song: )xoxo
Hahah alcohol before doing karaoke is such a must! Choosing a song everyone knows is great too- at least then everyone sings along. You look absolutely gorgeous in these shots! I adore your top.Rachel xxhttp://www.thedailyluxe.net
Ha, ha – I love your karaoke tips!! Especially the 'alcohol in your system' tip. You are hilarious. I am the worst singers, so I don't think anything would help me. Eeek!I love your outfit here – stripes and denim are a classic fav. Thanks for sharing!J. x
I can actually sing karaoke when I'm not drinking at all. I used to make it my duty to annoy my old coworkers on purpose with my annoying singing and I still do it to my fiancé from time to time haha. I also have some platforms similar to these. I'll have to style them with an oversized top like you did here!
Your look is chic… i've never been to a karaoke bar before… will love to experience that fun..Glowyshoes's blog

Wait I use to live in Town. What bar did you go to? I use to love going to this place called RBar and would go there random nights and may or may not have had some liquid courage to sing a song haha. Such a great way to spend your birthday! Happy birthday girl!
Ahaha, I really love this post, was laughing out loud. I remember my karaoke experiences and I've failed 9 times out of 10. I will definitely follow your tips next time!
Another important aspect is the choice of a good karaoke microphone. Do you agree? And this guide will help you in this matter:
