This post is loooong overdue since we actually got engaged in September! I am so excited to tell you all a little more about us and our love story. Keep scrolling to read about how we met and about the most surprising day of my life.
How We Met
It was June 2nd, 1999, no I’m only kidding, I don’t remember the exact day we met, but technically we have known of each other almost all of our lives. We actually went to the same Elementary, Middle and High School. If someone would have told us that we were going to end up together, we never would have believed it. In elementary school, I knew him as the boy with the mullet (he blames his sister) and he knew me as the girl with the grey hair. If you have been following me since the beginning of my blog, you know that I have a grey streak on the right side of my head. Just like Stacy London from What Not to Wear. Random Fact: We shared the same homeroom in middle school! The only reason we were able to figure that out was that we both remembered having a girl in our homeroom class. S/o to Ashlee (there’s absolutely no way she’d ever see this, hence, the shoutout).
Anyways, flash forward to the end of freshman year in college, and we were finally introduced to each other by a mutual friend. Don’t worry, he’ll have his spot in the wedding party. We all used to meet up at the movie theater, then hang out in the parking lot for hours after. It was every Thursday like clockwork. One day, before one of the movies started, Jonathan, my now fiancé, asked me for my phone because he wanted to show me a “trick.” He ended up texting his phone with my phone and from there he had my number. He sent the first text to me. I think it was on Halloween, I had just got off of my retail job, arrived home, and started to eat candy corn. He didn’t go out either, I honestly can’t remember what he did, but neither does he…
A lot of our dates at the beginning of our relationship included going to the beach, tide pools and hiking. We were always outdoors, my proposal was too.
September 20, 2018. I love the ring to this date. It was a normal Thursday, I just got back from my trip to Switzerland and we had planned to go to the mall and get something to eat later that night. When Jonathan got home from work, he said we should take Milo, our pup, on a hike first. I actually didn’t want to go hiking and wanted to postpone it, but there’s something about hiking the coast, that makes me so happy. Also, Milo loves it, so I caved. It was such a beautiful evening for the hike. There was no wind, and for a September afternoon, it was quite warm. We walked down by the Palos Verdes tide pools and Jonny asked me to hold Milo, because he had a “rock” in his shoe. Completely oblivious, I grabbed Milo and turned around to try and find somewhere to sit. When I turned back around, I saw my best friend on one knee, with a ring in hand. His next words were “Will you marry me?” I was so shocked! Of course, I replied with a YES! I always told Jonathan to make sure my nails were done when he proposed. My nails weren’t done and I had absolutely no makeup on. Jonathan told me, this is the way he loves me the most.
We took our engagement photos last weekend in Joshua Tree. I cannot wait to start wedding planning.
