In January, my sister and I packed our bags and had our first trip of the year. We headed to Houston, TX, and stayed at the beautiful Cambria Hotel Houston Downtown Convention Center, located in the heart of the central business district. This was our first time in Texas and we were
so grateful to be a part of the Cambria Blogger Shuffle! I swapped cities with Houston blogger, Emily, from Something Gold Something Blue. While I was in Houston, she was in Los Angeles. Not only did we swap places, we also created itineraries for each other, which featured some of
our local must-haves and hometown favorites.
We arrived to the Cambria Hotel Houston Downtown Convention Center on Friday. We were immediately greeted by the amazing, attentive, and generous staff. The 21-story, 226-room hotel is an adaptive reuse of the storied Great Southwest Building and features many upscale
amenities, such as spacious guestrooms, spa-like bathrooms with Bluetooth mirrors, and area-inspired art and decor. The room had beautiful big windows that overlooked the city skyscrapers. The interior design was both sophisticated and upscale while celebrating the city’s collected history through nods to NASA’s influence and Texas’ storied cowboy culture. The hotel is located in a prime location as it’s only a short walk to the George R. Brown Convention Center and Minute Maid Park.
Itinerary: Thanks to Emily, we had the perfect Houston travel guide. We wanted to be sure to make the most of our weekend trip and see all that Houston had to offer.
We ate at and drank at The Rig both nights. The Rig is a beautiful restaurant and bar located in the Cambria Hotel Houston Downtown Convention Center that offers freshly prepared snacks, appetizers, and main courses inspired by the dynamic Downtown Houston thriving food scene.
We ordered the delicious, fresh-baked pretzel sticks with IPA cheddar fondue and mustard and for drinks, we ordered the Cambria Rita – the brand’s signature margarita – and Cambria’s beer flight, which featured 3 brews, specially curated by the brand’s own Certified Cicerone as part of
its local craft beer program, from the hotel’s local craft beer menu.
Friday:

4pm | Have dinner at Xochi – Best Mexican food I have ever tasted!
6pm | Walk around the Historic 19th Street in the Heights
7pm | Grab Ice Cream at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream
8pm | Return to Cambria Hotel Houston Downtown Convention Center and grab a beer/cocktail
at The Rig.
Saturday:
8am | Workout at Cambria’s fully equipped fitness center
10am | Grab breakfast at Tiny Boxwoods
12pm | Stop by the Museum of Fine Arts
2pm | Visit Rice Village and shop
5pm | Visit the James Turrell Twilight Epiphany Skyspace to experience an
art/architectural masterpiece. At sunrise and sunset, they orchestrate music to the light movement to create an immersive experience.
7pm | Grab a quick bite to eat at Cambria Hotel Houston Downtown Convention Center’s The Rig
8pm | Check out Downtown Houston’s nightlife
Sunday:
10am | Final workout at the luxurious fully equipped fitness center at Cambria Hotel Houston Downtown Convention Center
11 am | Check out
12 pm | Walk to Boomtown Coffee and explore the downtown neighborhood
2 pm | Head to the airport and fly back to LA
